Community

The Police Training Institute believes police offers should be active members of the communities they serve.

Our curriculum emphasizes the importance of understanding of local communities, respecting different cultures and ethnicities, and treating all citizens with respect and dignity. Training is also offered in areas not required by Illinois State standards, including Spanish for police and juvenile officer certification.

The Institute also contributes to the community by expanding knowledge of law enforcement. Our collaborative research efforts advance teaching methods and add to the public discourse on policing. And through our Citizen Police Academy, we connect with local residents to develop stronger ties between community and police and better address crime issues.
