Course Description

This is a train-the-trainer course. The P.T.I. Pistol Optics Instructor class provides instructor-level training for previously certified pistol instructors that are training officers who are deploying pistol optics for duty carry. This three-day class gives an overview of the benefits and limitations of electronic sight systems for pistols, tactics necessary for on-duty deployment, the highly important differences in sight acquisition between iron sights and a dot optic, and tips for helping your officers transition from iron sights to optics.

Topics Include

  • A review of the design and function of pistol optics
  • A review of proper mounting and zeroing of a pistol optic.
  • Proper acquisition of the reticle from various shooting positions.
  • Combat shooting and CQB with an optic-equipped pistol
  • Malfunction drills with a mounted optic
  • Tips on how to quickly acclimate an experienced iron-sight shooter to a pistol optic.
  • Ideas for developing training for pistol optics shooters.
  • Care and maintenance
  • Drills will include actual or simulated optics use in inclement weather

    Prerequisites: Must have prior firearms instructor certification. Successful completion of the 40hrs P.T.I. Police Firearms Instructor course is highly recommended, but officers may submit documentation of prior firearms instructor certification for consideration. Must be sworn law enforcement. Student must bring a pistol equipped with a functioning and tested optic. No gunsmithing services will be provided.
